garden markers ~ easy tutorial

It is a bit late in the coming, spring being about over and all, but we have finally gotten down to the planting of our backyard garden.
Later I'll show you what the backyard looked like before we started.  A wind storm in December took out three pine trees.  It was a mess.  We'd been wanting a garden anyways, so this was the perfect opportunity.

I don't really feel like this post should be counted as a tutorial.  These are basically sticks with labels on them.  I just thought I would take photos of the steps I took to make our garden markers.  Here they are.

I found some scrap wood in the garage, I'm guessing it is some sort of pine-plywood.  I used the scroll saw to cut it into long thin strips about a foot long.

Next I drew a simple sketch of each veggie on the top of the sticks.  This is so my three year old can figure out what each marker represents.  Then I painted them by filling in blobs of colors.  Don't look too close.

After outlining the colorful blobs and adding in details with a thin sharpie, I used a fat sharpie to label the markers.

And voila!

Planting a garden?  I'd love to see!
