A giant block of melted cheese.

Do you guys ever freeze your cheese?  I do sometimes.  When I find a really really good sale on blocks of cheese, I buy eight and stick them in the freezer so we can go a few months without having to worry about buying more.  (Just so you know, if you do this the cheese will change consistency and be a bit more on the crumbly side.  Still good!  But a tad harder to slice and much better for sprinkling over lasagna.)  Anyway, I always forget to pull out a new package when the old one is getting low, and defrosting cheese in the fridge can take foreeeever.  Like a day.  So yeah, when you need cheese for dinner in twenty minutes, you don't have 24 hours to wait for it to un-freeze.

So.  Just to get things rolling, I thought I'd stick it in the microwave for 30 seconds and then I could grate a bit off the end.

So I put it in the microwave.

The whole block.

And it seems that 30 seconds wasn't long enough for it to even budge on the grater so I put it in for a minute.  Still no luck.  So I put it in for longer.

And then I forgot about it.

Minutes later (what happened to pushing the 30 second button?), I remembered my cheese...  And I still used it.  But I was oh so grateful that I could hide it from my neighbors and friends and everyone who is sane.  You know how sometimes you do something that's totally unconventional but it's not a bad thing, it's just weird, so you feel like a weirdo for a day, and you're just glad no one is watching?  Yes, that happened.  But somehow talking about it after the fact makes me feel more normal.  Plus I wanted to show the picture :)

  1. our family has an affinity for cheese.

i totally know that feeling though! of when you talk about your weird things and then it's not so weird anymore because you're talking about it like you don't care and everyone's weird!
